Tell us what's on your mind

Introduction

Despite the relatively recent destigmatization of psychological therapies, it still takes a lot of courage and determination to contact a therapist. Many patients still wait until their life falls apart before taking that first step.

Finding the right professional is the key to successful therapy. It is vital to choose someone with whom you can establish a good relationship, a psychologist who gives you confidence and with whom you feel empathy.

Do your negative emotions sometimes threaten to overwhelm you? You don't have to allow these depressing and negative thoughts to take over your life - your brain structure is constantly changing and can be trained and shaped to help you regulate and limit negative emotions. A carefully tailored attention therapy program can change your neural connectivity, replacing those negative images with positive thoughts of optimism and joy.

These are the reasons why going to therapy is increasingly accepted. We have transformed the shame of going to the psychologist into an added value of the person, sensing a trait of intelligence and sensitivity in those who practice it.

Why go to therapy?

Before starting any psychological treatment, it is recommended that you seek information about the different therapeutic currents. Some will be more enjoyable and others will be better suited to the situation you want to solve.

When a person decides to undergo psychological treatment, they show other traits of their personality. In order to investigate oneself it is necessary to be willing to face memories, sensations and problems of the past. Not all currents focus on the past, although most identify in this a starting point for certain conflicts.

If you are doing therapy, it is likely that for a while now you will feel a greater interest in relating to people who also do it. If you have been doing it for a long time, surely you have already noticed the benefits and changes achieved. Psychotherapy is a simple method that seeks tools that allow you to overcome, motivate yourself and find answers. It is an approach to the person from their reasoning mechanism and acquired and learned attitudes. It allows us to differentiate between one and the other and even give new answers to the usual problems. Limiting beliefs, generally on an unconscious level, prevent you from advancing in personal growth and in the kind of bond that you establish in your environment. By modifying these and other brain structures you change your attitudes and perceptions.

When to go to therapy?

Do you sometimes feel like the world is overwhelming you, and that perhaps you need to speak to a professional to see what is ~ really ~ going on? Congratulations! Going to therapy can be something exciting and fruitful, which will help you a lot to face the problems of everyday life with a calmer perspective on yourself. However, before you go, there are some things you should know before going to psychological therapy, so that you stay consistent and do not abandon the road. 1. FIRST THINGS FIRST: NOBODY CAN FORCE YOU TO GO ... AND YOU CANNOT FORCESS ANYONE. it goes through your mind, most likely you will not cooperate with the expert, you will not unfold, and there have even been cases where people lie, so the treatment becomes useless. There are people who commonly do not want to cooperate because they are not ready to face their problems yet, which is valid. As soon as you feel ready, there will always be someone who can greet you. But it may also be that they are very prejudiced about what it is to go to therapy, especially in a society where this treatment is linked to "being crazy." BUT IT'S NOT LIKE THAT . Going to therapy is helping you emotionally, and the more we normalize this issue, the less fear people will be, and the more receptive they will be to receiving psychological therapy. 2. TRY TO CHOOSE AN EXPERT IN THE SUBJECT Unfortunately there are many scammers who may not give you the correct treatment, directly send you to medicine, or do things that can hurt you more. Trust your instincts and see within yourself if the therapy you are receiving is actually helping you. If not, feel free to find someone new. Check the psychological current that follows, their studies and if possible, ask for references. If at one point you feel uncomfortable or ask for strange things, goodbye, and a new search. Of course, if on the way you ran into someone you did not like, that does not mean that you should give up the search. There are many professionals with an impeccable level of medical ethics who will be able to help you. 3. IT IS A LONG-TERM TREATMENT When it comes to physical illnesses, we understand at first that a treatment can be long, even lasting years. But when it comes to mental health, we tend to think that in a couple of sessions everything will work out wonderfully. But no: like any other practice, it takes several sessions to know what is happening, how to solve it and how to deal with the things that ail you. So do not despair, and think that you are investing an hour a week to get to know yourself better. That's right: you are investing in the person you should love the most in your life. 4. YOU MUST FEEL COMFORTABLE, AND KNOW THAT THINGS WILL BE TALKED THAT COULD MAKE YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE Going to therapy is talking about your parents, your childhood, the things that make you sad, that make you angry, about your relationships, about your sexuality. In short, of all those things that can make you feel very vulnerable. Therefore, it is important to have a good click with your therapist, and to know that it is a safe space, free of prejudices where you can talk about everything that you could never talk with another person, in order to detect the primary source of your problems, and be able to find solutions. Going to the psychologist is very brave, and we congratulate you if you have made this decision. If you're still thinking about it, take your time: when you're ready, there will always be an expert who can greet you and help you.
